Focused on exceptional food and authentic hospitality, this suburban restaurant offers a menu balancing guest favorites, seasonal items and occasional surprises. Inspired by locally sourced food and original recipes from scratch, Vivo Kitchen is as much about being welcoming as it is about serving delicious food.
The location was home to a restaurant showing its age, and in need of a fresh personality, environment, and approach to food. Considering its location, perched on the edge of a second tier suburb, the experience needed to be worthy of a destination, drawing from the local community and surrounding areas. The goal was to create a place well-suited for special occasions, but approachable enough for patrons to feel comfortable dropping in and dressing casually.
Vivo Kitchen is serious about food and hospitality, but doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s a place focused on the guest’s comfort – special, but easy to appreciate. A friendly palette of color and illustration creates a bright, warm personality expressed in printed elements and details throughout the interior.
An open kitchen celebrates the food and its preparation. It’s a focal point of the space, featuring a mural crafted of ceramic and glass designed to frame the kitchen and bar-style seating. It’s a choice spot within the restaurant that also functions as a buffet area for brunch and large events.
Details throughout the space draw on a visual palette of fun, naïve illustrations of food and natural elements designed to create an inviting personality.
Located on the other side of the restaurant is another mural and focal point for the bar. Made of layered wood to form imagery, the mural acts as a conversation piece, offering something to discover with each visit.
Details of metal, wood and glass add special touches of craft throughout the space. Working with the construction trade, architects and artisans (including Trellage-Ferrill) we collaborated to create a unique, one-of-a-kind place.
Located in Apple Valley, Minnesota, Vivo is a community place, serving as a meeting location for the Rotary Club and other social groups. The space often plays host to events like wedding parties or banquets, which makes it the perfect venue for Vivo’s unique offering of food and hospitality.
